The eight teams for the ANGT Varese from April 1-3, 2022: AX Armani Exchange Milan, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, Joventut Badalona, Panathinaikos Athens, PFYM Paris, ratiopharm Ulm, Varese Academy. The eighth team will be a Next Generation Team selected at a later date by Adidas staff. And as an added bonus, here are some players to watch from all teams. Please note, these are NOT official roster lists - solely projections by TTC.
AX Armani Exchange Milan
Milan will be interesting to see how competitive they are. A few of the names to at least be aware of include: Lionel Abega, Junior Galicia, Andrea Leoni, Gianmarco Fiorillo and Jacopo Rapett.
Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana
Cedevita Olimpija will have a strong group of Slovenians and Croatians. The leader of the team will be Andrija Jelavic with Vukašin Todorović being another major part of the team. A couple of other names to watch are 2005-born Lon Lican, Filip Horvat, Vice Zanki and Gasper Kocevar.
Joventut Badalona
Joventut will be a contender for the title in Varese with a strong group of talents. Conrad Martinez was on Spain’s extended roster for the FIBA U16 European Challenger, from which Spain pulled out. The 2005-born Martinez is one of the real leaders of Joventut’s EBA fourth division team along with Jordi Rodriguez. Both players played at the ANGT last season as did 2005-born Portuguese big man Ruben de Oliveira and Gerard Bosch.
Panathinaikos Athens
By far the biggest name on this Panathinaikos team is 2006-born point guard Neoklis Avdalas, who has already made his debut with Panathinaikos’ pro team. Symeon Efstathiou and Emmanouil Dimou both played for Greece at the FIBA U18 European Challenger.
PFYM Paris
Two-time ANGT champions PFYM Paris - formerly INSEP and CFBB - did not play last season in the competition due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the team will likely be a solid challenger. The team will be led by Rayan Rupert, Melvin Ajinca and Mael Mael Hamon-Crespin - all three who played at the FIBA U20 European Challenger last summer. The team will also feature Aurele Brena-Chemille, Alexandre Bouzidi, Theo Pichard, Noah Penda, Mohamed Diakite, Simon Correa and Wilson Jacques.
ratiopharm Ulm
Ulm will have a strong group as they are becoming an ANGT regular. The leader will be Jacob Ensminger, but there will be plenty of help. Lenny Liedtke has played a major role for the club in the U19 NBBL league along with Sebastian Pachucki, 2005-born Marko Rosic and Simeon Dimitrov of Bulgaria. Ulm could also bring some possible U16 German national team players including Eric Reibe, Joel Cwik and Jordan Müller.
Varese Academy
The hosts will be debuting and have a couple of interesting players. Vuk Bogunovic has been close to making Serbian youth national teams, there is also Jovan Filipovic, Zhao Wei Lun, Argentinan Benjamin Marchiaro, who played at the ANGT last season with Stellazzurra Rome, as well as 2005-born Levi Guimdo.
