Friday In Case You Missed Its: Wembanyama is No. 1 - literally; WIU - the NCAA dynasty; Tribute to the legendary Duda; great preseason games in Europe; dynamic Kendrick Perry; drone photos!
The WWW is an endless ocean of exquisite content. Unfortunately so much is out there we are bound to miss some great stuff. Here are just some of the gems found this week by the Taking The Charge substack.
Wembanyama No. 1 - literally
Victor Wembanyama is all the rage in European basketball right now - actually throughout the world. The 17-year-old is one of the most tantalizing prospects - perhaps of all time. On an Instagram, he made a bold statement, which you gotta love: “Sometimes your number is just predestined🤷🏽♂️…”
Who knew? Western Illinois University - the NCAA college hoops dynasty
As a WIU alumni who watched his fair share of Leathernecks games while working or the Western Courier college newspaper, I was quite smitten to find this Substack. First off, it was quite alarming to see WIU called “one of the worst teams” in college basketball. But I guess it wasn’t far-fetched. Anyhow … I look forward to delving into this work and read about the Leathernecks becoming a superpower in NCAA hoops.
Tribute to the legendary Duda
For those who don’t know European - or international hoops - the name Dusan Ivkovic might not mean much to you. But the man affectionately known as “Duda” is one of the legendary coaches on the continent. Championships upon championships upon championships as well as leaving his mark on on so many players and coaches and fans. “Duda” has passed … and world basketball mourns. RIP Duda - thanks for touching my life the few times we did have to interact.
Great preseason action in Europe
The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup seasons are a couple of weeks from starting but there were a trio of outstanding, drama-filled matchups over the weekend. I won’t spoil the outcomes. Enjoy.
Dynamic Kendrick Perry
Speaking of EuroLeague … Kendrick Perry will finally be making his EuroLeague debut this season. We watched Kendrick do his thing in the Basketball Champions League three seasons ago with Nizhny Novgorod and then he was with Boulogne Metropolitans of France and Mega Belgrade of Serbia the following season before moving to Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in the EuroCup last season. And now he will be playing for Panathinaikos Athens. In case you haven’t seen him play … enjoy some of the highlights below. Here is a nice interview with him ahead of the season.
Drone photos that are out of this world!
And last but not least … some amazing photos taken by drones
